“I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:36, 40)
Over the last few years, a group of pastors and community leaders have worked collaboratively to develop an opportunity for churches to support returning citizens. Churches across the state are invited to become Second Chance Churches! A Second Chance Church is a church that desires to show the love of Christ to people reentering the community after a period of incarceration by intentionally providing support and resources. Mentors at these churches help connect returning citizens to community supports and to programs at the church that offer discipleship. Urban Alliance has been involved with this effort and offers training and practical support to equip churches and mentors.
“Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” (Hebrews 13:3)
