Charis/Thrive: Supporting People Who Have Experienced Complex Trauma

Feb 7, 2020 | UA News

Did you know that 80-90% of people experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime? This was the topic of conversation during the combined Charis/Thrive learning community on January 31. During this meeting, 43 people from 30 different churches and organizations, representing 9 early childhood programs and 27 care and counseling programs, gained a broader understanding of how complex trauma negatively impacts a person’s emotions, body, and even their brain as it struggles to process what has occurred and how programs can help support those impacted by a traumatic event(s).

After the initial presentation, small group conversations led to a group collaborative brainstorm session about how programs can best support and nurture people who have experienced trauma. One participant said it well, “Every time I come to Urban Alliance, it gets better and better. This was great. This information is so helpful.”
