ALICE Family Healthcare Report

ALICE (Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed) describes the “working but struggling” segment of the population—households earning more than the Federal Poverty Level but still unable to afford a basic household budget for housing, childcare, food, transportation, healthcare, and technology. This report explores and documents the specific barriers these ALICE households face in accessing health insurance and healthcare services. While previous research has established the prevalence of ALICE households and highlighted general affordability challenges, this study fills a critical gap by integrating both quantitative data and qualitative perspectives directly from ALICE households themselves, providing insights that go beyond what we previously understood about their healthcare access struggles. Download the full report to discover what ALICE families are telling us about their health insurance barriers and what needs to change.

The Importance of Research

One way to support real and lasting change for the better is to be certain that you understand the complexity of the problems a community faces and that your efforts are effective. Urban Alliance provides community research and analysis, as well as training other organizations how to use research tools effectively to improve their own efforts.
